Square Floating City on WNL

The call for future-proof and climate-adaptive housing is growing louder. The recent political and national media attention for our project demonstrates that the concepts of Square Floating City are increasingly recognized as a serious solution.

Constructive Working Visit in Delft

Recently, we welcomed Van Asten and Grinwis, Members of Dutch Parliament, for a working visit at our location in Delft. During this meeting, we shared our vision on spatial planning and demonstrated how living on water offers a concrete answer to current societal challenges. It was a valuable discussion, during which we noted that the urgency and potential of large-scale floating living are explicitly acknowledged by the attending MPs.

A European perspective

Living on water is not new to Europe. From the canals of Amsterdam and Venice to the houseboats along the Seine, water has always been part of daily life and urban identity. Expanding this tradition to a larger scale is a natural next step, fitting seamlessly with European values of sustainability, community, and quality of life.

Each floating neighborhood can be adapted to reflect the local architectural language – whether it’s the brick facades of Northern Europe, the colorful waterfronts of the Mediterranean, or the modernist skylines of emerging hubs. This ensures that every project feels like a genuine part of the city, not a detached experiment, blending innovation with heritage in a way that resonates with both residents and visitors.

Our Ideas Broadcasted Nationwide

Following these discussions on innovative building methods, the broader public also gained insight into our plans this week. During the broadcast of the NPO morning show Goedemorgen Nederland (WNL), our animation of floating living was featured. For us, this serves as a strong confirmation that the work of Square Floating City is drawing attention and is increasingly included in the national dialogue about the future of the housing market.
